Aging with Tobacco

Smoking tobacco is probably one of the worst things you can do to your body. Smoking creates a decrease in circulation, oxygen and vital nutrients. If you are a cigarette smoker, you are draining your body of its vitamin C and E. These vitamins prevent new damage from occurring to your skin by hastening up the repair system in your skin. Nicotine narrows the blood vessels in the epidermis, which in turn, impairs blood flow to your skin. If you smoke, expect to age ahead of your time! The chemicals in cigarettes damage the collagen and elastin fibers in your skin and cause you to age prematurely. There are approximately 4000 chemicals in cigarette smoke.

To name a few:

  • Carbon Monoxide

  • Arsenic

  • Butane

  • Formaldehyde

  • Cyanide

  • Ammonia

Tobacco is made of many dangerous chemicals that not only harm your body, but your skin. Even though skin is elastic and can heal after many harmful events, smoking damages that elasticity. So the longer you smoke, the longer it will take for your skin to build up the elastin fibers that were damaged. Smoking also damages the lungs, the throat and the body in general. Many who smoke claim it makes them look younger, while it is really making them age faster.

So if you smoke, you should definitely do yourself a favor and quit as soon as possible. It takes your body a while to restore itself after you stop smoking, but you will feel significant changes just days after you have quit. It will be difficult, but just keep in mind that your body will benefit highly from quitting!
